Principal Backend Engineer - Distribution

SoundCloud is looking for a Principal Backend Engineer to join our growing Creator team!

As backend engineers at SoundCloud, we build the infrastructure for products that music listeners and creators love. Our work often involves large-scale distributed systems, parallel computing, and data science. We actively improve our tools and processes to support collaboration and productivity. Key Responsibilities:

- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance services using Golang, TypeScript, and NodeJS
- Improve systems enabling artists to connect with fans and monetize their passion
- Collaborate with product leadership, music industry experts, and engineering teams across SoundCloud
- Become a domain expert in music distribution and aid artists in career growth
- Communicate team needs to the wider organization to ensure system efficiency

Experience and Background:

- 12+ years of experience working with high-traffic distributed systems
- You are self directed and collaborate well with Client-side Engineers, Product Managers, and other key stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions
- You are comfortable driving projects across teams from inception to completion with a strong sense of ownership
- A history of shipping using Golang, Typescript, Node, or Kotlin in production environments
- Experience working with various SQL and NoSQL databases like DynamoDB, MySQL, BigQuery, Redis, and MongoDB
- Experience deploying and managing services in cloud environments, preferably AWS
- Experience working with messaging and queuing systems like Kafka, Kinesis, and SQS

The salary range for this role is $180,000 - $215,000 annually. The final salary offered will be determined based on relative experience, skills, internal equity, and location. We also offer a generous total rewards program - read more about additional benefits and perks below!
